Before Treatment

Eight signatures detached from textblock

Treatment
Tape removal and adhesive residue removal of the taped pages - strangely, the printed ink tested fugitive with any solvent based liquid, ruling out the use of solvents for the removal process. Therefore, removal was done with heat and erasers.
Resizing of the weak, damaged pages, including the fragments from the taped page
Repair of the fragments using toned tissue and wheat starch paste
Paper repairs and infills using toned tissue and paste
Resewing of the missing sewing station, loose signatures, and removed signatures onto the textblock mimicking the machine sewing
Hinging of torn page
Paper hinge insert for missing page
New spine linings and conservation headband
Cloth consolidation, repair, and infilling
Board corner consolidation and recovering
Board reattachment and internal hinge repair
Board book shoe for support and display
